MARGARET AMBRIDGE
Margaret Ambridge is an Adelaide-based artist who works across multiple platforms including drawing, installation, photography and video combining the power of making with a passionate interest in the intimacy of the human experience using art as a conduit to open conversation and promote connection.
Margaret is concerned with the intensely personal aspects of life; the subjects and experiences so often actively avoided or ignored. Her work has explored the intimate worlds of palliative care, personal relationships, the increasing invisibility of women as they age and the lack of acknowledgement of the work they do.
Recent solo exhibitions include Embedded Gallery M, SA (2024); Becoming Invisible?, Praxis ARTSPACE SA (2022); Walk on By, West Gallery, SA (2020), On line, Brunswick St Gallery, Vic (2020), Beneath, Praxis ARTSPACE (2019), ‘til death, Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, SA (2017).
Winner of the 2023 Dobell Drawing Prize People’s Choice, 2023 inaugural Nylan Photographic Prize, 2020 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, 2020 Alice Prize’s People Choice, 9th Prospect Portrait Prize, and finalist in many major art prizes, including the Dobell, Creative Health Art Prize, Blake, Glover, Waterhouse, Muswellbrook, Alice Prize, Outback Prize, M16 Artspace Drawing Prize, Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, Prospect Portrait Prize, Fleurieu Art Prize and an invited artist to the Kedumba Drawing Award, her work is held in public and private national, and international art collections.
Margaret’s art practice is defined by the opportunity it provides to broach social taboos and engage with humanity personally, directly, and deeply.
